A Variety of Smiles

I hope to give you at least a few different reasons to smile today! Of course, every day is a day to smile when you live in the awareness that you are loved by God. =)
  • "If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you." ~Winnie the Pooh (A.A. Milne)
We have the quote above in a small frame we keep in our living room, and I think it is so precious. If Winnie the Pooh doesn't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will!

And for those of you who remember playing the Oregon Trail computer game, I highly recommend that you click HERE. This video on YouTube has a couple of crude moments, but it is ever so funny if you used to play the computer game, and if you remember having to choose your occupation, rafting down the river, and shooting your own food! I first saw this a few days ago embedded on a literary agent's blog, and it really made me laugh! The video is very well done and quite hilarious!

Finally, the following picture was taken on our last vacation, after we had played a round of miniature golf and we were looking at one of the of the other courses. If you watched the Oregon Trail clip above, then you could say I'm the kid who should have been more careful not to get a snakebite! ;) It's a good thing that's not a real snake, because 1) it's huge!!! and 2) my sister doesn't seem to care that I'm getting bit by a humongous rattlesnake! No worries, though--I would never look that happy if I saw a real snake like that!

Feel free to comment on anything and everything--even something completely random that made you smile recently! =)

I do remember The Oregon Trail game, we played that in elementary school. We were allowed to play it as a reward on Friday afternoons when we finished the rest of our "computer" work.

I loved Oregon Trail!!! Our elementary school would have times just for our classes to go into the computer lab to play. I loved it! I have it on my Blackberry now ;)

Julia,

Fun times! :) I remember playing that game many times. It was interesting and an entertaining way to spend an afternoon, but that quote in the video ("We won't learn anything") might be truer than we know. I suppose some parts of the computer game might teach you something--like the route of the Oregon trail and the various hardships people had to face--but there were probably quite a few parts of the game that were rather unrealistic. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Ariel,

It was a fun game, wasn't it? Love the fact that it was fun and considered educational (to some extent). How neat that you have it on your Blackberry! ;)

Winnie the Pooh is my little boy's favorite!! :)
Sadly, I don't remember ever playing the Oregon Trail. Best I remember in our elementary school, there was only one computer that was shared between a couple of the rooms. That might be why we didn't play! ;)

Bluerose,

Winnie the Pooh is so sweet! Glad your little boy likes him, too! :D

I'm sorry you don't remember ever playing The Oregon Trail--you're really missing out! ;) Just kidding! It's pretty funny to look back on it, but I don't think it's one of those things that will make your life complete or anything like that. ;)

I DEFINITELY did not play this Oredon Trail game! Lol....ummmmmm...wow I fell WAY out of the loop!

Oh my goodness, I wouldn't be caught dead near that huge rattlesnake! AHHHHH!! I woudld've been pulling you away from it and running, girl

: D

WICKED!!! THat's what's really made me smile recently : )

And connecting with a local girl going to C-S too! She's like exactly the same as me and we're excited to talk a little so we "know" someone when we get on campus! Heard back from her today!! Should find out about roommate and dorm room tomorrow *crossing fingers*

Hope you're having a good day,
Talk to you soon,
Hannah

Hannah,

Hahaha, let me guess--you watched the video then without having played the game? ;) It's super funny if you played the game, but if you haven't, well...it might just come across as strange!

No worries--I wouldn't be caught dead near that rattlesnake if there was any chance it could be real! ;) But thank you for letting me know that you would save me from it if it was! :D

I'm so glad you had a wonderful vacation, and I bet I'd be smiling, too, if I had gone to London and seen some amazing shows at the theater (of course, I would be super happy if I could see Phantom of the Opera...). :)

And how wonderful that you're already making friends before you even get to school! :D I hope your roomie is sweet and kind like you! Last year one of my good friends that I met at school and I requested each other for roomies and requested a specific dorm room--and I found out recently that we're all set! So I'm happy. :)

Hope your day is going well, as well! So far, mine has been a rather lazy day...but good!

P.S. For those of you who have watched the video I linked to, you have to admit there are some funny lines! Like:

-"Nobody wants to be the carpenter!"

-"No, shop-keep. Just the bullets. Just the bullets..."

-"Banker isn't going to help us ford this river!"

etc.

Hope it brought some laughs your way!

Awwww I love that Pooh quote! It's funny how we can get so much from kid's movies and books isn't it?

AND Oh my gosh! I totally was addicted to this game! My gram still has the game disc somewhere...I'll have to ask her about it!

Speaking of games you might be too young fot this but I loved Word Munchers and Number Munchers when I was a kid. Too fun.

XOXO~ Renee

p.s. stay away from large snakes. i like your blog and wouldn't know what to read without it. :-P

Renee,

I know...isn't it adorable? I love it so much! And I'm big on Disney and other movies/books that are considered to be "children's" movies/books, so I know what you mean! There's definitely a lot to learn from them and enjoy about them, too!

Wasn't that game too much fun? ;) I'm sure we must have our disc somewhere around here, too...

I'm not sure if I recall Word Munchers or Number Munchers specifically, but they sound like fun! ;)

~Amber

P.S. I'll try to remember that. :P I'm so happy you enjoy reading my blog!

LOL Word Munchers was fun, Number munchers too but I kinda hate math so I wasn't very good at it.

XOXO~ Renee

Renee,

Glad they were fun for you! ;) I'm kind of with you on the math thing. I think math is very cool, and it's great that some people really get it. I made it through AP Calculus (I had a great teacher!), and I might have to take one more math class, but I think that's enough for me! Give me writing any day. :)
