A Walk Through the Corn Maze

A corn maze can offer a quintessential autumn experience:

A unique look at the beauty and bounty of the harvest;

The sharp and sudden call of crows, and the lonesome silence that follows;

A calm solitude filled with wonder and whispers;

The pleasure of finding your way after numerous dead ends and wrong turns.

Of course, if the corn maze is a busy, crowded one, then the experience is more likely to be one of screams and laughter and chaos and racing. If a corn maze is filled with people and festive signs and decorations, it's certainly a fun fall outing!

But for those times when the people are few and the hushed autumn air hovers over the field, the experience is a melancholy delight. There's just something about this season with its combination of harvest joys and winter forebodings... It seems to be a thoughtful time of year when some things must be gathered in and others must be let go.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven....
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted....
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away."
 ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1,2b,6 ~

I do so enjoy a walk through the corn maze with friends and/or family! This year my mom, sister, and I went at a quieter time when there were only a handful of people in the maze, and I enjoyed taking a few pictures of the scenery. =)

One more thing: In case you were wondering, we tested out a probably well-known (?) theory I've tested before, and we met with success (as I did another time). *Potential Experience Spoiler* Just keep your left hand going along the left "wall" of the maze, and you won't have to worry about getting lost! Of course, you'll go through plenty of dead ends since you'll be following the inner perimeter of the maze, but you won't visit the same dead ends over and over again. I guess it all depends on whether you want to take the reliable scenic route or experience the fun of being lost! *End of Potential Spoiler*

So, do you like walking through a corn maze? What other autumn activities do you enjoy?

Hi Amber:

The seasons change for a reason.

God has an infinite number of plans for us. They adjust each time we make a free choice. God’s plan is to bring us home in His full glory. There is a mansion at the end of each plan and pathway taken. Our dreams are but God’s way of offering us choices and thus allowing us to become fully human and fully alive. When we are truly on God’s road our being resonates with joy – the joy all overcomers feel when following the way, the truth and the light.

A maze is best experienced in solitude. For when we are with others we are never truly lost. At night, with just the moon and the stars to light our way, a maze mimics life. Where do we put our trust? What do we fear? Do we look up for guidance or do we look down for past evidence? Do we take the safe way or do we enjoin the spirit of the maze? I will venture forward. I will risk a longer journey. But I will overcome because I will never cease my quest.

Oh, I LOVE corn mazes! Lol we have the "Great Vermont Corn Maze" in Danville, VT which everyone knows is a great treat to go to. Well everyone here :P Here's the website:
http://www.vermontcornmaze.com/

Every year they mow the corn into a specific shape. It's been in shapes from 'Vermont' to the design on the back of the state quarter! It is SO cool and people can't wait to find out what the design is for the year! Anyway, it's been years since we've gone to this. It's a couple hours away from us and none between here and there. Your post made me wanna go there though, Amber lol

How've you been? How is life after graduation?

Hi, Hannah!

Aren't corn mazes so much fun? But, wow, I haven't been to one like that before!! The website is very cool - thanks for sharing! :) Sounds like an epic maze, and it looks a lot harder than any I've been to, LOL!

As for me, I'm doing well - mostly spending time with family and taking life one step at a time. :) It's an interesting place to be - between school and whatever comes next - especially after spending almost my whole life in school. But now there are just different challenges to face. Thanks for asking! :)

How are you doing? I saw that post on your blog about the fundraiser you were participating in - how did it go?

Hope all is well for you and your family! ((Hugs))
