A little over a month ago I hosted Jocelyn Green, author of Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives, on this blog. If you missed her visit, you can read the interview HERE.
Today I'm sharing my partial review of this great devotional book. I say "partial" because I'm only about a quarter of the way through the book at this point in time. But I'd like to let you know my thoughts so far!
My Partial Review:
I am not a military wife, but this wonderful devotional book is still full of great reminders for me. I have read through the first section entitled "Taking Every Thought Captive," and I am almost finished with the second section entitled "Guarding the Heart." The first section encourages the reader, through various pieces written by different military wives, to have a proper attitude--seeing blessings in solitude, joy in God's sovereignty, and a need for compassion and understanding toward others. The second section discusses more specifically the hardships of being a military wife, such as the temptations involved with being left behind, alone for long periods of time.
While this book is directed more toward military wives and would surely be a great comfort and help to them, I still have been blessed by what I have read and look forward to reading more. I love the book's focus on God and others, looking beyond oneself. With heartfelt pieces, questions to ponder, and prayers to read, Faith Deployed has much to offer for any reader.
*With thanks to Jocelyn Green and Moody Publishers for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion. To learn more about this powerful book, check out the website at www.faithdeployed.com.*

Hi Amber:
I have not read the book but I think that, "Faith Deployed", is about as good a tile that a Christian book could have. It just has to be good!

P.S. It IS good! ;)
Oh, I just love your review, Amber! The titles of the 2 sections you mentioned are powerful ones and I'm sure what is shared in them really hits the heart- even if you're not a military wife. Your thoughts on this devotional were beautiful and I really hope I can read this someday! I really want to get a nice devotional book this year. What Laura shared on her post the other day and your post today has really inspired me. Thank you, my friend, and happy reading :)
Blessings,
Amanda
Amber,
Good review - We agree!
My husband and I have been using the copy I was s pleased to win from you (!) For our devotional this year. We highly recommend it, whether you are military or not... For we ARE in a spiritual battle. It's so timely and appropos.
I did just place an order for the Joni & Friends Wounded Warrior Getaways this year. I'm POSITIVE the families will be blessed. Thanks so much for introducing it to us!
Happy 2011!
Amanda,
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the review. :) I'm sorry it's not a complete review--I think it will be a while before I finish the book. I didn't want to wait forever to share my thoughts, though! ;)
This is a wonderful devotional book, and I hope you get the chance to read it sometime, as well! Here are the titles of the other 6 sections in the book:
"Ambassadors for Christ"
"Taking Orders"
"Total Surrender"
"The Price of Duty"
"Active Duty Faith"
"Hope of Victory"
They are great section titles, aren't they? Of course, there's a little phrase that accompanies each title, but I just thought I would type the main words. :) It's nice to have a devotional book to accompany our Bible reading, and I hope you can find a good one! It was so nice of Laura to offer a couple to give away!

And that's wonderful that you placed an order for the Wounded Warrior Getaway! I'm so pleased! :D I hope it truly does bless the families. I was blessed to have the opportunity to feature this book, and I'm glad that it has blessed you, as well!
