Cover Candy

Confession: I love book covers! That doesn't mean that a beautiful book cover makes up for a not-so-good story, or that a rather unattractive book cover can't house a great story. But covers can really catch the reader's eye, and it's nice to look at the bright colors or the lovely image as the book sits on a desk or on the shelf. Book covers are a part of the package deal, and as a reader I myself admit to being swayed by the appearance of covers. (I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but there are people who do a great job at creating beautiful art to surround a story, and I think their work is valuable, too!)

All that to say, I have some great cover candy to share with you today! Perhaps you've already seen these - perhaps not. But let's take a moment to appreciate the lovely treats, and maybe in the process I can introduce you to the authors and their books!

Starflower by Anne Elisabeth Stengl (October 2012)

I loved Heartless and Veiled Rose, and I've already pre-ordered Moonblood, which releases in April! Not only are the covers gorgeous and intriguing, but Anne is a talented author who writes fascinating and powerful fantasy!

Bees in the Butterfly Garden by Maureen Lang (July 2012)

I love how different this book sounds! An interesting premise, and such a sweet, inviting cover!


The Phantom Island Series

Windchaser and Windfall are already available, and Watercrossing is coming soon! These are YA books, and the covers look so fanciful with beautiful colors! (I'm a big fan of purple, and I love blue, too!) Be looking for my reviews of the first two books over at The Borrowed Book in the coming weeks!

Love Will Find You

This is a friendly reminder that Sunday (December 4th) marks the beginning of the "Love Finds You" blog party taking place right here at this very blog! End of Summer Bash with T.L. Higley!

I am thrilled to host author T.L. Higley here at "Seasons of Humility" today! Tracy's "Seven Wonders" books are fascinating, and she has a new book coming out this fall! You can find out more about Tracy at her website.

Welcome, Tracy!

Amber: What is your favorite part about late summer?

Tracy: I love the perfect weather in late summer, in my part of the country (the Northeast). Perfect for sunset walks, for sitting on the deck, with just a hint of coolness.

Amber: If you were planning an “End of Summer” party for your family and friends, how would you envision it? Would you want a beach party, a picnic in the park, a neighborhood barbecue, or something else entirely?

Tracy: I’d love something adventurous! Maybe a scavenger hunt, or hiking in the woods, with a big campfire in the evening. Lots of s’mores, of course!

Amber: Yum! =) Sounds good to me! As autumn appears on the horizon, what do you anticipate about this next season the most? Do you have any fall traditions or memories you would like to share?

Tracy: I absolutely love the colors of fall. I tend to dress in warm autumn colors, and my home décor is all burgundies and chocolate browns and golds. So when the fall actually arrives, it feels like home to me!

Amber: Of the books you have written, do you have a favorite? If so, which one is it and why is it your favorite?

Tracy: Tough question! That’s like asking which of my kids is my favorite. I like them all, for different reasons! I’d have to say that my favorite characters thus far are in Guardian of the Flame, including Cleopatra and Julius Caesar!

Amber: I loved the characters in that story, too. =) What’s next in your writing career? We would love to hear about any upcoming releases!

Tracy: Well, Petra: City in Stone releases in a couple of weeks, followed by Pompeii: City on Fire next year. I’m very excited about both of these books. If you’ve seen the third Indiana Jones movie, The Last Crusade, you’ll recognize Petra – it’s a city built into stone in the middle of the desert, and a great setting for a historical suspense novel!

Now, readers, as many of you know Ashley from After All....... Tomorrow is Another Day is having a countdown party anticipating the release of A Hope Undaunted by Julie Lessman. (Be sure and click on the picture link in the sidebar and enter her fabulous giveaway!) Anyway, we've been discussing which books we've really anticipated (or are still anticipating) this year. I have to tell you, Petra: City in Stone is up near the top of the list for me! I can't wait to read it!

So, in addition to leaving a comment for Tracy, does anybody want to share about the books coming out this fall that you're looking forward to reading? With the release of so many wonderful books this next season, we have quite a lot to look forward to!

Reading Retreats: My Home Away From Home

My grandparents' house is my home away from home. My grandma and I say that my parents' house is my first home; my grandparents' house is my second home; and college is my third home. =) I spend a lot of time at my grandparents' place--in fact, I just spent the night at their house last night! It has been more than wonderful to live so close to them, and their property is lovely.

The picture above is an area in their front/side yard. There used to be a really tall tree there that created a canopy, but they had it cut down and moved the fountain from the back yard to the front. The picnic table is nice there, and doesn't the lamp post add a nice touch? =) This picture was actually taken last year, I think, and I was reading Shadow of Colossus by T.L. Higley.

Higley's books are great! I actually won City of the Dead, the second book in her Seven Wonders series, over a year or two ago, and I loved it! I ended up getting the first book in the series (Shadow of Colossus) and then getting an ARC of Guardian of the Flame (the third book) while I was away at college. I cannot wait until her next book Petra: City in Stone comes out this fall! Higley really transports her readers into exotic locales of the past, and the mysteries and action in her books are fantastic!

Anyway, going back to my grandparents' house, I have a lot of great memories there, and I don't know how many books I've brought over there to read! Do you have a special place where you've read a lot of books? And do you want to share about any books you're really looking forward to reading this fall?
