Fall Friday (Movies and a Giveaway!)

Part of our family's fall festivities is to watch our favorite Halloween movies. And no, they are not Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Friday the 13th! I got to watch two of the following three with my parents when they came up to visit me. =)

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Disney animated short about the story of Ichabod Crane is a classic! It is narrated by Bing Crosby, and the songs and clever telling of the story are so much fun. The superstitious nature of Ichabod Crane provides for a lot of laughs, but I can't say I blame him for being nervous with talk of the Headless Horseman! ;)

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Who doesn't love this one? There's just something so sweet about Linus, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the whole Peanuts gang. I love all of the main Charlie Brown holiday movies, and this one has a lot of interesting story lines. This is another classic!

Here are several clips from the movie that I found on YouTube:

Halloween Haunts

I loved Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald Duck, and all the original Disney characters as a child. This collection has three stories: one starring Mickey, Goofy, and Donald as ghost-busters; another starring Pluto and a bunch of cats; and the last starring Donald and his nephews. Lots of laughs in this one, too!

Now, I'm not saying I recommend these movies for everyone. Yes, they are all animated, but I know parents have to be careful when choosing what they should allow their young children to watch. However, I will say that I've watched these ones for years and I continue to enjoy them immensely. In my opinion, they sure beat any type of scary movie! ;)

Earlier in this post I mentioned that I watched two of the three of these recently. Leave a comment with your guess as to which one I didn't watch this year, and I'll draw a name out of those who guess correctly. The winner will receive my gently used copy of In Every Heartbeat! (You must leave your e-mail address in your comment and you must have a U.S. mailing address.) The winner will be announced Halloween night!

Hello, my dear!
First off, I must apologize greatly for not being around at all. It hasn't been my intentions at all, it's just been a really, really...tough week let's say. I've been dealing with some issues and coming to some really scary revelations as far as my arthritis and carpal tunnely stuff is concerned, unfortunately.

BUT since I'm here it's time to celebrate! LOL! I've brought some of my mom's scrum-didly-umptious homemade sugar cookies. We've got ghosts, pumpkins, bats, and fall colored leaves here folks!! Eat up!! They're yummy, trust me *grin*

I have a feeling that you guys didn't watch the Disney Halloween Haunts this year. We love those little duckies too, but something tells me you might've outgrown it for now until you have kids maybe : ) However the other two ARE classics definitely!! My mom watched Charlie Brown last night on TV, but since I was at school I couldn't : (

Thanks for this giveaway, Amber! I haven't read anything by Kim Vogel Sawyer, but she's supposed to be awesome!! Thanks again. Hopefully we'll talk soon. You know I always love talking to you, so full of wisdom and there's just a wonderful calm, sense of peace, around your words always.

I haven't watched a Halloween special in ages but I caught It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. You've got to love Linus's optimisim! Guess that means you'll be watching A Charlie Brown Christmas in a month or so, eh?

My guess is that you didn't watch Halloween Haunts. But I live in Canada so don't enter me in the draw PLUS I have the book. Haven't read it yet though!

Oooh, I LOVE The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I just showed it in class today as a matter of fact. I don't know if you've watched it lately, but the language in that movie is so hard to understand (I don't remember that as a kid, but noticed it since I started showing it at school), but children love it anyway because of all the action in the cartoon.

Hannah,

Oh, don't apologize! I haven't been visiting very many blogs recently, either. I'm so sorry you're going through that right now--I'll be praying for you!

Ooooh, thank you for the sugar cookies! I LOVE sugar cookies, and those are such fun shapes! Be sure and thank your mom for whipping us up a batch. ;)

I'm sorry you missed out on watching It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! :( I hope you get to watch it sometime soon. It's so cute! :D

You're welcome for the giveaway! Thank YOU for entering! ;)

And thank you so much for those kind words. You are a dear, dear friend, and I'm thankful for all of your encouragement!

Kav,

I'm glad you got to watch it! I know--Linus is very optimistic through all the trials and criticism he faces. ;)

And yes, I'm sure I will be watching the Christmas one in about a month! :D I love the play they do and the little Christmas tree Charlie Brown rescues. So cute!

I hope you enjoy In Every Heartbeat! I'll be curious to read your review. Sawyer is a great writer, even if I did prefer A Hopeful Heart to this particular book.

Joy,

Me, too! SUCH a classic! :D How fun that you showed it in class today!!!

That is an interesting point about the language...but I think you're right in that it has plenty of action to keep a child's interest. And I just love Bing Crosby narrating it! :)
