What's In Store This Week? (With Giveaway!)

Tomorrow I'm going to start a three-part post in honor of Thanksgiving week. It's a short story called "The Jar" that I wrote in three installments. While it is a work of fiction, it's inspired by a few real elements from my own life, and it's dedicated to someone whose kindness I'm very grateful for. I hope you are blessed by the story!

With all of the homework and reading and blogging I've been doing this month, I really haven't done much of anything for my nano-NaNoWriMo project. And while I'm disappointed in myself for even making the challenge and not putting forth more effort to follow through on it, I'm hoping the Civil War poem, this short story, and possibly another short story for the BB (still not for sure on that one, so mum's the word!) will inspire and encourage you!

Now, one book I recently finished reading inspired me to try a unique voice for my short story, so I thought I would give that book away today to share the love:

    I absolutely want to be entered.

    I've read a couple of books that were first person, but I loved them! It's unique and somewhat hard to do from what I understand.

    Omniscient--I love to hear the thoughts of everyone, so that's cool too.

    Perhaps I should clarify by calling you the U.S. Linda. ;) Thank you for your entry!

    And thank you for sharing your thoughts on different POV's! I think, if done well, first-person POV can be great. (I'd give the example of Alice Wisler's work - I love her books!) A Heart Most Worthy is so unique with its omniscient narrator. I imagine that would be pretty hard to keep up through a whole book!

    I love historical fiction!! I like it best when it is in first person, just able to feel the things they feel, and I think they can get more intimate in their descriptions that way of their thoughts.

    I love historical fiction, too! :) This one is really interesting - and sweetly romantic!

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for the entry! I don't know if I necessarily prefer one voice over the other - I think it really depends on the author and the book. But first person can be really neat that way, in giving you a better glimpse into their thoughts. :)

    Hi Amber! I'd like to read Siri Mitchell's book! And I do prefer the third person cause I like to get in other characters' heads, but I also enjoy first person.

    I would like to get this book!:)
    I think I like third person perspectives because you can know what each person is thinking, instead of just one persons thoughts.
    But I do like some first person books. But they have to be very well written. This book is first person right? So I'm excited to see how it is!;)

    I enjoy third person POV, too - it's what I prefer to write, and generally read! :)

    This book is actually written from an omniscient POV, but it's certainly unique like a first person POV! :) The narrator has her own thoughts/opinions, and she shares all of the characters' perspectives - plus, she has insight beyond what the characters know about themselves. It's quite intriguing! (And I refer to the narrator as "she" since the author is a "she.")

    I tend to gravitate towards books that are written from third person POV---I like to know what's going on all around. But I occasionally read works of first person POV. To me, first person POV is kind of like a case study of a character.

    How lucky! I've been wanting to read this book for a long time, but my library doesn't have it! I'll try my hands at winning...

    Personally, I have a tendency to prefer writing in third person, because I get to explore the minds of other characters. I tend to write in multiple POVs, in third person. But I don't really mind reading either way...it depends if the novel is well written, whether I enjoy it or not.

    And, to answer your question, I like reading first-person POV when it's written well. If it's not, it can be hard to read and really feel the character. But when it IS written well...I am totally transported into the story! :-)

    I agree - I think first person POV does have to be well-done in order to really get into the story. But when it is - awesome! :)

    I don't really prefer one POV other another as long as the story is good. I usually enjoy first person because I love to get into the characters head and be exposed to the story along with them.
