'Twas the Night Before Christmas...

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through my apartment
each corner of the place received its allotment
of Christmas cheer and sparkles and cute little knick-knacks -
while the kitchen had its share of sweet holiday snacks.

Little Olaf was nestled all snug in my stocking,
Mouth closed, smile wide, though he'd rather be talking.
The rest of the treasures would have to wait to be seen,
Even if dear Patience would never make me its queen.

Over on the table, the candle flickered and crackled.
(Those wooden wicks make sounds that would leave Santa baffled.)
Some snowflake lights shone brightly beneath one of the windows,
and green tinsel draped sweetly even without some red bows.

A bucket full of flowers ordered from a friendly coworker
Added a touch of elegance and class to my plain kitchen counter.
Christmas cards from thoughtful friends to my very own self,
marched one after the other across my kitchen shelf.

And way in the corner (you had to round the table to see),
was a little stash of presents and my mini book tree.
Feeling blessed by what I had, all that happened, and all that might -
I wished my dear readers a happy Christmas and a wonderful night!

Amber, this is darling. Beautifully written, expressed and put together. Never quit writing, friend. :)

Love your cute decorations and book tree - oh, and Olaf! If that's the beanie baby, we picked one up too. So cute. :)

Merrrrrry Christmas, Amber!!! Great poem, and your apartment looks absolutely adorable -- so wonderfully creative and Christmassy. When you look up at the stars tonight, may you feel the presence of God's love shining as strong and bright as the dazzling star on that first Christmas night!

Merry, merry Christmas, Amber! What a delightful poem and peek into your Christmas. I am a wee little bit jealous of your book tree. ;)

Rissi,

I so appreciate your sweet encouragement. :) Thank you for your kind compliments! And yes, that's the Olaf Beanie Baby that Santa left in my stocking. ;) Definitely cute!

Hope you had a delightful Christmas, my friend!

Cindy,

Those are such sweet words coming from an awesome writer and Christmas-decorator such as yourself! :D Thank you for the thoughtful wishes and the beautiful reminder of what (or rather, Whom) we're celebrating on Christmas. I hope you all had a great one!

Meghan,

Aww, thank you! A merry (belated) Christmas to you and yours, as well. :) And my book tree is nothing fancy, but it was fun to "build," and I'm glad you like it!

Confession: This poem isn't 100% accurate, as I don't think I lit my candle on Christmas Eve - but it pretty much sums up how the main rooms in my apartment appear(ed). ;)

*Hugs* and God bless!

Amber! I can't believe I missed seeing this post! You are a writer in more ways than one! I love it! (Need any more exclamation points, by the way? ;) But seriously. This is awesome. I trust you DID have a lovely Christmas and New Year.

Kara,

Aww, you are so thoughtful to read back through my posts and to take the time to comment! Thank you for the super kind words. So blessed by your supportive friendship. :D (And I'm totally OK with you using an abundance of exclamation points, haha!)

I did indeed have a lovely Christmas and New Year's. Spent the former with a coworker and her family, and got to spend New Year's Eve with my mom and sister when they visited with me. A different sort of holiday season than the ones I spent at home, but it was quite fun and a special time, for sure.

Hope your Christmas and New Year's were full of love, laughter, and joy, Kara!
