My Review of Head in the Clouds

Here's a description of the book from Bethany House Publishers:

"When a recovering romantic goes to work for a handsome ranch owner, her heart's not the only thing in danger!

Adelaide Proctor longs to find a real-life storybook hero to claim as her own. But when a husband-hunting debacle leaves her humiliated, she interviews for a governess position on a remote Texas sheep ranch and vows to leave her silly romantic yearnings behind.

Gideon Westcott left his privileged life in England to make a name for himself in America's wool industry, never expecting to end up with a child. To his dismay, five-year-old Isabella hasn't uttered a word since she lost her mother. The unconventionality of the new governess concerns Gideon—and intrigues him at the same time. But he can't afford distractions.

When Isabella's uncle comes to claim the girl—and her inheritance—Gideon and Adelaide must work together to protect Isabella from the man's evil schemes. Soon neither can deny their growing attraction. But after so many heartbreaks, will Adelaide be willing to get her head out of the clouds and put her heart on the line?"

My Rating: Spring/Summer

My Review:

With a sweet and engaging writing style, Witemeyer swept me away through the pages of this book. I think most readers who choose to pick up this book can completely relate to Adelaide and her longing for a love story of her own. She is a fun heroine to read about, and her creative and caring heart is inspiring. I love the games and activities she does with her young charge, Isabella. Too cute! It just goes to show that imagination goes a long way in learning and growing.

As far as the hero of the story, Gideon was very much the gentleman such a heroine would require. He's a gentle soul, but he's also very protective and brave. What's not to love? Together he, Adelaide, and Isabella face a lot of danger and peril, all without losing hope.

This is a great love story! While I highly recommend reading Witemeyer's previous novel, A Tailor-Made Bride, this one can be read on its own. Both books are wonderful, and I eagerly await more stories from Karen Witemeyer!

I loved this one too but I haven't read A Tailor-Made Bride yet. Better add it to my list.

Like you, Amber, I enjoyed both of Karen's books and look forward to reading more. I've been privileged to meet her in person. She's really nice, and she's multi-talented. She has one of the most amazing singing voices I've heard. I stood beside her during a hymn sing and just mouthed the words so I could enjoy listening to her.

Keli,

How exciting that you met Karen in person! She seems like a sweet person from her online presence--I'm sure she's even sweeter in person. :) And how neat that she's a great singer, too!

Definitely looking forward to reading more books by her. :) Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I saw on your blog that you are getting published!!! Congratulations!!! I can't imagine how exciting that must be! :D

Again, great review, my friend! What I really liked about this book, that wasn't showcased as much in TMB, was Karen's ability to write with a very funny, dry humor! Witemeyer's wit ;) I don't know how many times I laughed in the first 5 chapters alone. A lot of genius one-liners, especially from Adelaide. I can't wait for her next book!! She truly is one of those authors that just a few paragraphs into one of her books lets you know she is destined for your favorites list :)

Blessings,
Amanda

What a lovely surprise to find this review this morning! Thank you, Amber for your kind words. I harbor a deep romantic streak, not unlike Adelaide, and it was a pleasure to write a story for all of us who read and dream of our own Prince Charming.

Amanda - So glad you enjoyed the humor. "Witemeyer's Wit" - I love that!! I hope you enjoy meeting Levi and Eden in May. Eden has a bit of a sarcastic leaning when she's lost in thought. She's too much of a lady to say it aloud, though. Um...Usually. :-)

Hi Karen! Oh, I'm sure I will thoroughly enjoy meeting them, as I have ALL your characters!! I also love the names you pick for your heroes and heroines- very Biblical :D And the new cover looks wonderful! I especially like how "strong" your hero, Levi, looks ;)

Looking forward to more of that "Witemeyer Wit" and I like heroines with a bit of a sarcastic lean- makes things more interesting ;D

Blessings,
Amanda

Yes, I was quite pleased with the cover model they found for Levi. I insisted on a muscular hero to fit with the story descriptions, and my editor, bless her heart, valiantly sacrificed herself to the arduous task of searching through all those male model portfolios until she found one that would do. It must have been brutal. LOL
