Reading Retreats: Among the Flowers

Take a few moments to get away from it all and join me on a "Reading Retreat" among the flowers! This week we'll be hearing from a couple of wonderful blogging buddies, and I'll be sharing some of my fun reading stories. I'm sure we'll also have to discuss where we would want to go if we could plan our own "Reading Retreat!"

This past week I was on vacation in Nevada, and on Saturday I had the pleasure of reading in a beautiful garden at Edith Palmer's Country Inn in Virginia City. That's me up above, reading Where the Dogwoods Bloom among the greenery! The sun was shining, the sky was a lovely blue, and the flowers were cheery as I held this delightful little book in my hands. (If you would like to read my review of the book, click HERE.)

Did anyone find some time for reading this weekend? (What a silly question!) If so, where did you do your reading? If you get a chance for some more quick reading, check out the poem I just posted by clicking HERE or scrolling down the sidebar. This poem was where the title of my blog came from.

And now, enjoy an interview with our very own Tammy (Bluerose) from Bluerose's Heart!

Amber: Where is your favorite place to read? Do you prefer curling up by the fire or going out into the sunshine?

Tammy: My absolute favorite place is on my front porch. I read somewhere (I can’t remember where) that a book is always better outside, and I completely agree. There’s nothing like hearing nature while reading! I live in the country surrounded by trees and fields, so I get to see a lot of nature, too. It’s so fun to look up from my book to see the hummingbirds fighting, or a rabbit hopping across the yard. We’ve counted 14 deer at one point in the field behind our house. Nature and a good book just makes the world seem more peaceful and brings me closer to God!

Amber: Where is the most interesting place in which you have read a book? (This could include an intriguing town, an exotic trip, or simply an unusual quiet spot.)

Tammy: The last book I read traveled a little more than normal. One half was read at the lake, where we went to visit my husband’s family. (I took advantage of a babysitter!!!) The other half was read in a vehicle on the way to and from my son’s doctor appointment, which was about 3 1/2 hours driving time. (I took motion sickness medicine to be able to do this!)

Amber: If you could choose any location to read in for a day, with any kind of scenery, where would you want to go? And if you could choose to bring only one fiction book with you for this day trip, which would you choose?

Tammy: I would definitely choose the beach! It’s been awhile since I’ve got to go enjoy the ocean. I’ll assume this trip is after September 1, and I would bring A Hope Undaunted by Julie Lessman.

Amber: Which upcoming release (book) are you most look forward to, and why?

Tammy: We all know I’m really looking forward to A Hope Undaunted, because Julie’s books have quickly became one of my favorite series’ ever! I also want to add two more, though. I can’t wait to read Karen Witemeyer’s Head in the Clouds, because I loved Tailor-Made Bride. And last, but not least, Jan Karon’s In the Company of Others. I started reading The Mitford Series several years ago, and it’s another of my favorites. I can’t wait to see what’s going on with Father Tim and Cynthia.

Amber: I'm definitely with you on the release of A Hope Undaunted! Can't wait! Thanks so much for joining us today, Tammy!

Happy reading, everyone!

Oh goodie -- Tammy gave me more titles to check out. I'm jealous of her country porch. I've never seen a hummingbird!!!! And fourteen deer at one time? Sigh. My dog would like a country porch too.

Amber, I didn't know you were a poet too. Is there no end to your creativity????????

And yes, I found (made more like) time to read this weekend. Finished The Sisters of the Quilt series....Sob!!!!!

BLUEROSE!!! Your name is Tammy??? How come I didn't know that?

And you're taking Undaunted to the beach?? Gosh, can I come if I promise not to give away the ending??

Amber, I'm jealous 'cause I haven't been able to get to Myra's book yet, but it's next on my TBR list, so I am EXCITED!!

Amber and Tammy -- thank you again for your incredible support -- you guys are the best!!

Hugs,
Julie

I have been reading Dr. Richard Mabry's Medical Error. It is kinda technical, but good...the jury is still kind of out on that one...

JULIE!!! I am still hoping your book comes in the next two days, cross my fingers it gets here early??

And Amber, taking DeeAnne Gist's book that I won here on vacation, it will be one of the first I plan on reading!

Amber-Thank you so much for interviewing me. (Makes me feel special)! :)

Kav-Those hummingbirds are mean!! I have to be careful when their fighting like little kids. I still love to watch them, though. If we had a garden, I bet the wildlife wouldn't be so wonderful anymore. :)

Julie-I wish I really was going to the beach! I don't think most people know my real name. I always forget to sign my name at the end of posts like normal people. :)

Welcome to our first "Reading Retreat," everyone! :)

Kav,

I know what you mean! I've heard good things about A Tailor-Made Bride, but I still haven't read it yet! :( Hopefully soon!

And yes, a country porch does sound nice, doesn't it? We're fortunate to see deer at my grandparents' house off and on, and we have a lovely backyard of our own that gets visited by birds and such. Love the view from our balcony, too, so I guess I have no complaints. ;)

What a sweet thing to say! I just love to write, and I really do enjoy writing poetry. :) I'll actually be taking a Poetry Writing class this next semester, but after taking Novel Writing I'm a bit unsure--it can be hard to have your creativity judged! (But no worries; I didn't share my current WIP in Novel Writing class--I definitely wasn't ready for that!)

Anyway, so glad you got to finish the Sisters of the Quilt series! I know that was a source of anxiety for you. ;) I confess I only read the last one, but there's a lot of drama in just one of those books!

Julie,

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I think we call Tammy, "Blurose," so much that it just kind of stuck. ;) But I thought I would use Tammy's real name for the interview. :)

Enjoy reading Myra's book, and you're more than welcome! Can't wait for A Hope Undaunted to find its way into my eager hands!

Casey,

Well, hopefully the book turns out to be good after all. I'm still kind of skeptical about medical books... ;)

And how fun! Have a wonderful vacation, and I hope you enjoy A Bride in the Bargain!

Bluerose,

You're more than welcome! :) It was great to host you on my blog!

And I wish you were really going to the beach with A Hope Undaunted, and I wish I could go with you with my own copy hot-off-the-press! ;) But we can dream, can't we?

Hahaha I don't think anyone I know can wait for A Hope Undaunted! I've been anticipating it for at least a year...I want to read it NOW!

This is such a cute interview I'm glad to finally know BlueRose's real name too!

XOXO~ Renee

Renee,

That's for sure! Has anyone heard from Revell yet? I'm on the invite list, but I don't know if I'll feel secure until I know for sure that I've been accepted to review it! ;)

Glad you enjoyed the interview! It is fun getting to learn more about our wonderful blogging friends. :D Bluerose/Tammy is really sweet!

I think that Donna from Revell is on vacation so not sure if we'll get anything this week. I haven't heard from Revell at all about the book so we'll see! I hope I get an invite!

Renee,

Oh, OK. Guess I'll have to learn to be patient--but it's hard! ;) And I'm sure you'll get an invite! I'm so excited!!!

What a great interview, Amber and Tammy! And I know I would agree with you guys, reading a book in under the wide open sky is something everyone needs to experience.
And I can't believe we only have one more month to wait, till A Hope Undaunted comes out. I know I'll be jumping with joy when I open our mailbox and see the book there. LOL;)

But, did I read right? Casey you're actually getting the book in a couple days???
You know I'll be pestering you with a million questions, once it does get there, right?;D

Love the Reading Retreat so far Amber, and I hope I can get over here tomorrow and see what else you have in store for us.
Love Ya,
Ashley

Thanks for joining the "Reading Retreat," and hope to see you around here again soon!

I tried to post something yesterday, but maybe it didn't go through, so I have to post again since you are interviewing one of my favorite blogger people :). Tammy, I love your honesty and I love the fact that you are so generous with other bloggers. I'm so glad I found you through the blogosphere and it is neat to see an interview with Amber as she is one of my other favorite bloggers :). I LOVE the header on your blog, very Napoleonic French to me. Maybe that's not what you were going for. But I love the "French" look.

I can't wait for A Hope Undaunted, if the tour doesn't work out for me somehow I will have to run out and buy it right away.

I am reading Passion Redeemed....enjoying it SO MUCH!!

Julia,

Sorry that Blogger was giving you trouble. No fun! ;) But so glad you could eventually leave a comment!

Tammy is great, isn't she? And thank you for the sweet words! :)

Great to hear you're enjoying A Passion Redeemed! And we're all eagerly awaiting the release of A Hope Undaunted. :D
