Monday for the Military

The United States military is such a wonderful example of honor and sacrifice. Throughout the years, throughout all of the wars the United States has been in, the military has fought for freedom--for the people who they loved and the people who loved them.

From World War II (which my great uncle Robert died in), to the Korean War ("The Forgotten War" which my grandfather was in), to the Vietnam War (which my father was in)--I am reminded of the lives that have been lost, the lives that have been saved, and the love that has been shown. I'm so proud of my family, both those members which have been in the military and those members which have had to stay at home and let go of loved ones.

And now we are part of a new generation. As a young adult, I have friends and acquaintances that have recently joined the U.S. military. From people I knew in martial arts classes, to one of my good friends and neighbor, along with his older brother (who both joined the Marines), I have seen people go off to bootcamp and off to war, ready and willing to make sacrifices for their country and demonstrate courage.

Today let us think of all those we know who are in the military, who are veterans of the military, and who have had to stay at home and watch others go as part of the military. May we pray for them and thank them for all they have done and will do.

Wow Amber, you have such an amazing legacy left to you and the precious blood of selfless heroes running through your veins. A special and heartfelt "thank you" to your family for the great sacrifices they've made and their willingness to lay down their very lives to protect the rest of us and future generations. You are right to be proud of such wonderful people :)

It's so heartbreaking to hear of the casualties of war, I can't even imagine actually witnessing them or having my loved ones being named among them. And it's overwhelming to think young men and women our own age are out there fighting such evil. Praying the Lord will protect and defend them as they protect and defend us. May He give them His perfect peace and His incredible strength to perform what is set before them. May He bring comfort and heal the scars and memories of the precious veterans. And ultimately, and most importantly, may they all find salvation through Jesus Christ- makes me think of what Julie Lessman said in A Passion Most Pure, that "war has a way of illuminating the face of God."

Thank you, Amber for another wonderful, inspirational, and beautifully written post for our military! Praying for you and your family :)

Blessings,
Amanda Stanley

Amber and Amanda -- I don't know how to follow comments like that! I just finished reading A Candle in the Darkness by Lynn Austin and it's about the Civil War and it's made me very emotional -- can you imagine living in a time when you are at war with your own people? Families pitted against families? It boggles the mind. You think we would have learned something over the decades. Sigh.

Amanda,

Thank you for such a beautiful comment! I am definitely proud of my family--thank you for your gratitude to them, as well! :)

And thank you, also, for that lovely prayer! I'm so glad the Lord hears the cries of our hearts and that He's with those who are in the military right now (and the veterans), just as He is with each of us on the home front.

I'm so glad you stopped by, and I say a hearty "Amen" to your prayer! :)

Kav,

Thank you so much for stopping by! That must have been a hard book to read, and it is difficult to imagine what living through the Civil War would have been like. And then today, with so much going on around the world that I can't even begin to imagine... I'm just so glad that God is in control of it all and that through God's grace we have the hope of heaven!
